How Does 10 Team Double Elimination Tournament Work?

A 10 team double-elimination tournament consists of three brackets:

Winner’s Bracket

The tournament format for 10 teams resembles a single-elimination bracket for 10 teams, featuring multiple rounds and matches to decide which teams move forward.

The difference is that when they lose in this bracket, they drop off to the loser’s bracket.

Loser’s Bracket

Teams get a second opportunity to remain in the tournament through the losers’ bracket. Any team that continues winning on this side can fight its way back and earn a spot in the finals.

Finals

In a 10 team tournament, the finals begin with a matchup between the last team remaining in the losers bracket and the most recent team eliminated from the winners bracket. The loser of this match takes 3rd place, while the winner moves on to face the undefeated winners’ bracket champion in the Grand Final.

If the winners’ bracket team suffers its first loss in the Grand Final, a Grand Final Reset match is played to determine the ultimate champion.

Our tournament app handles all of the above automatically, updating brackets and results so you don’t need to track anything manually.

Seeding

You can select between seeded, blind draw, or manual pairing for the initial round:

  • seeded: Higher-ranked teams are positioned in the bracket to avoid facing each other until the later rounds.
  • blind draw: Teams are shuffled and paired completely at random.
  • manual seeding: Players will be paired in the order entered, with the last ones assigned byes (if necessary).

Compared to other Tournament Formats

A 10 team double-elimination tournament offers a balanced approach between single elimination and a full round robin. It lasts longer than a single-elimination, but finishes faster, while giving each team a fairer chance by letting them stay in the competition even after one loss.
