How Does 7 Team Single Elimination Tournament Work?
The tournament of this size has 3 rounds. First round has 1 bye.
Bracket Size
Bracket size defines how many games are in the 1st round including byes. To calculate this number, we need to take the next closest power of 2 — in case of 7, the closest power of 2 is 8.
Byes
To find out how many byes we need, we need to find the difference between the number of the participants and the bracket size, which is 1 for 7 teams/players.
Rounds & Games
As we stated above, there are 3 rounds:
- Quarter-Finals (or “Round of 8”): 4 games, 7 players, 1 bye
- Semi-Final: 2 games, 4 players
- Final: 1 game for 2 players
Seeding
Choose on of the 3 options:
- seeded (most common): top participants will meet later in the tournament
- blind draw (or random): no seeding, the pairs are randomized
- manual seeding: players are paired in the order you enter them; the last player will get a bye
