How Does 3 Team Double Elimination Tournament Work?
A 3 team double elimination tournament consists of 3 brackets:
Winner’s Bracket
It’s identical to the single-elimination bracket for 3 teams, and works the same way: it has 2 round and 2 games.
The difference is that when they lose in this bracket, they drop off to the loser’s bracket.
Loser’s Bracket
Here the participants have a second chance: if they win all games in this bracket, they will get to play in the finals!
Finals
The first game in the finals is between the winner of the loser’s bracket and the loser of the winner’s bracket. The participant who loses gets the 3rd place, and the winner faces the winner’s bracket winner in the next, Grand Final game for 1st and 2nd place.
If the winner of the Grand Final game has not loses, they’re the champion of the tournament! If the winner GF has one previous loss, there will be one more game to determine the champion, and it’s called Grand Final Reset.
Our tournament app handles all of the above automatically, so you don’t need to worry about it!
Seeding
You can select between seeded, blind draw or manual pairing for the initial round:
- seeded: top ranked players will meet later in the tournament
- blind draw: the participants will get shuffled and pair randomly
- manual seeding: players will be paired in the order entered, with the last ones assigned with byes (if necessary)
Comparing to other Tournament Formats
