How Does 6 Team Double Elimination Tournament Work?
A 6 team double-elimination tournament is structured around three main brackets:
Winner’s Bracket
It follows a setup much like a single elimination bracket for 6 teams, with several rounds and matches to determine who moves forward.
The key difference is that teams who lose in this bracket aren’t knocked out right away.
Loser’s Bracket,
Teams get a second chance to continue in the tournament. By winning all their matches here, a team can earn a spot in the finals.
Finals
The finals start with the losers’ bracket winner facing the team that just fell from the winners’ bracket. The loser finishes 3rd, and the winner advances to the Grand Final against the winners’ bracket champion to decide 1st and 2nd place. If the winners’ bracket team loses its first match there, a Grand Final Reset is played to determine the champion.
Our tournament app handles every step automatically!
Seeding
For a 6 team tournament, you can choose how the opening round matchups are set up:
- seeded: Higher-ranked teams are arranged so they won’t face each other until later rounds.
- random draw: Teams are shuffled and paired at random.
- manual setup: Teams are matched in the order you enter them, with byes added if needed.
This lets you customize the start of the tournament exactly the way you want.
Compared to other Tournament Formats
A 6 team double-elimination tournament strikes a balance between single elimination and round-robin in terms of both time and fairness. It lasts longer than a single-elimination format but finishes faster, while giving teams a fairer chance by allowing one loss before they are eliminated.
