How Does 8 Team Double Elimination Tournament Work?
A 8 team double-elimination tournament is structured around three main brackets:
Winner’s Bracket
This format is similar to a single-elimination bracket for 8 teams, with multiple rounds and matches to determine who advances.
Loser’s Bracket
Teams that lose get a second chance by moving into the the losers’ bracket instead of being eliminated. A team that keeps winning in the losers’ bracket can still fight its way back into the finals.
Finals
The finals begin with the losers’ bracket winner facing the most recent team eliminated from the winners’ bracket, with the loser finishing 3rd and the winner advancing to the Grand Final against the winners’ bracket champion.
If the winners’ bracket team loses the Grand Final, its first loss, a deciding Grand Final Reset match is played, and our app handles the entire process automatically.
Seeding
For a 8 team tournament, you can choose how the opening round matchups are set up:
- seeded: Higher-ranked teams are positioned so they won’t face each other until the later rounds.
- random draw: Teams are shuffled and matched at random.
- manual setup: Teams are paired in the order they are entered, with byes added if needed.
This allows you to kick off the 8 team tournament exactly the way you prefer.
Compared to other Tournament Formats
A 8 team double-elimination tournament offers a balance between single elimination and round robin in terms of both time and fairness. Double-elimination tournament lasts longer, but finishes faster than a full round robin.
